Success Stories
AIM Power Consulting delivers commercial and technical advisory services across the full lifecycle of power generation plants. We work as a trusted partner, bringing decades of power generation and energy market expertise to help clients achieve their operational and business objectives.
Underperforming Combustion Turbine Compressor Upgrade
A client purchased compressor upgrades for multiple gas turbine units and amended its LTSA to include the new scope. Although the provider met its contractual obligations, the upgrades failed to deliver the performance benefits represented during the sales process.
AIM conducted a commercial and technical evaluation of the LTSA, upgrade scope, hardware, controls, and onsite conditions. Analysis of pre- and post-uprate turbine control logic showed that most performance gains resulted from a firing temperature adjustment rather than the compressor hardware upgrades.
AIM documented the technical basis for the underperformance and developed a commercial strategy to engage the supplier, including drafting formal notices regarding the discrepancy between represented and delivered performance. The resulting settlement provided the owner with savings exceeding 50% of the upgrade cost and improved commercial terms.
LTSA Market Repricing During Asset Acquisition
AIM was retained to perform commercial and technical due diligence for a facility acquisition and identified that the existing LTSA was priced significantly above current market rates, creating a substantial liability for the buyer.
As the LTSA included a termination provision upon change of ownership, AIM developed a cost model to assess major maintenance requirements and potential savings from alternative service arrangements. Based on this analysis, AIM presented three options: renegotiate the existing LTSA, competitively rebid the scope, or self-perform the major maintenance program.
The client implemented this strategy and achieved cost savings exceeding $12 million.
Long-Term Service Agreement Renewal & Competitive Bid Process
AIM was retained to support a client through an LTSA renewal process, beginning with a review of the existing contract and an assessment of its commercial terms, scope, market competitiveness, risks, and opportunities. AIM also evaluated the renewal offer submitted by the incumbent provider.
Based on this analysis, AIM developed a commercial strategy, drafted the RFP and term sheet, identified qualified bidders, and managed the competitive bid process. AIM also led vendor communications, contract negotiations, facility audit workshops, and capabilities evaluations through contract execution.
The client ultimately remained with the incumbent provider, using the competitive process to secure significantly improved terms. The engagement delivered approximately £30 million in savings and improved risk provisions across the contract.
